美國(guó)中央司令部6月22日稱，美國(guó)空軍一架U-2偵察機(jī)在返回位于阿拉伯聯(lián)合酋長(zhǎng)國(guó)的基地途中墜毀，隨機(jī)飛行員身亡。外電報(bào)道如下：A U.S. Air
Force U-2 spy plane involved in a mission in Afghanistan crashed
while returning to its base in the United Arab Emirates,
killing the pilot, the military said Wednesday.
U.S. Central Command said the crash occurred in "southwest Asia," a
term that can be a substitute for the Middle East.
"The Airmen of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing mourn the loss of a
true American hero in the service of his country," said Col. Darryl Burke,
the unit's wing commander.
The wing has been based at the al-Dhafra air base near Abu Dhabi, in
the United Arab Emirates, since early 2002. The wing flies various types
of aircraft, including aerial refueling tankers. It was visited in August
by Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Crash表示“碰撞，墜落，墜毀”，例如：Their car crashed into a guardrail.（他們的車撞上護(hù)欄。）The
airplane crashed over the ocean.（飛機(jī)在海洋上墜毀。）作為形容詞，crash還表示“應(yīng)急的，快速的”，例如：a
crash program（應(yīng)急措施）。
據(jù)悉：U-2高空偵察機(jī)綽號(hào)“黑寡婦”，可在七萬英尺的高空飛行、照相、使用雷達(dá)偵察及截聽通訊。1960年，一架U-2在原蘇聯(lián)境內(nèi)被擊落，飛行員僥幸逃生后被原蘇聯(lián)抓住并被判入獄。這起事件導(dǎo)致美國(guó)和原蘇聯(lián)關(guān)系一度緊張。
